Five takeaways from Biden’s Oval Office address

(The Hill) - President Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office Thursday evening. The main topics of the 15-minute speech were the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and the war in Ukraine. The Middle East has entered a horrific new phase since Hamas killed about 1,400 Israelis in a surprise attack on Oct. 7. Israeli reprisals have killed around 3,800 Palestinians. A ground invasion of Gaza by Israel could come at any moment. On Ukraine, polls show American public commitment to the war wavering as the price tag for aid keeps rising. Biden’s speech was also delivered against a backdrop of dysfunction on Capitol Hill, where the House has been without a Speaker since Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted on Oct. 3. Here are the main takeaways from Biden’s speech. Here's her email: Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I was at a restaurant with my husband and a few friends over the weekend. We brought my 1 year old, who sat at the table with us. He of course dropped some food and other things on the ground over the course of our meal. We ate our food, paid our bill, and got ready to leave. As we were walking away, one of my friends stopped us and says "aren't you going to pick up after your child?" I couldn't believe she said that. I get we're at a restaurant, but he's a child. He didn't mean to leave scraps on the ground. She said I should've taken the time to pick up what was dropped so the waitress doesn't have to. I think it's the waitress's job to clean up. Was I out of line or was my friend wrong to say anything? Thanks so much.PattyI don't know if Patty's friend should have sai...Free car wash with food donation at Hoffman Car Washes

Dear Amy: I am an almost 70-year-old widower (politically liberal and atheist) who wants to meet new people. Especially female people.Unfortunately, I have almost no experience.I had a total of two dates in high school, both of which went nowhere.I became very good friends with my best friend’s wife (friend-in-law?), and when they divorced, she and I got married. So when it comes to wooing and flirting, I’ve got nothing. It’s been four years since my wife died, and I have had zero possible romantic encounters. My only teacher has been rom-com movies, which I am told do not portray real life. Sadly, I was planning my run through the airport already, but now I’m lost.Where should I go to meet a possible romantic interest?— No Game in DenverDear Denver: Assuming that you are respectful, presentable, self-supporting — and that you can still drive at night — I’ll paraphrase a line from “Sleepless in Seattle” and say, basically, that the available women will th...Adults in education and training across EU regions

The distribution of adult participation rates in formal and non-formal learning during the last 4 weeks at the regional level (NUTS 2 regions) tends to be very homogeneous within EU countries, reflecting national rather than regional education and training initiatives. In 2022, 96 out of 240 regions had participation rates equal to or above the EU average of 11.9%. This group included every region of Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia, Finland and Sweden, as well as Estonia, Luxembourg and Malta (all single regions at this level of detail). At the top of the list, there were 24 regions where at least one-quarter of people aged 25 - 64 participated in education and training during the four weeks prior to the survey. In 8 regions of Sweden, the participation rates were higher than in any other region in the EU, peaking at 38.1% in the capital region of Stockholm. This group also included all 5 regions of Denmark and 9 out of the 12 regions in the Netherlands, with the h...Forced transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia - PACE adopts resolution

At the end of April 2023, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution on the deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia. The first time that an international document refers to possible genocide by Russia against Ukrainians with reference to the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, writes Alona Lebedieva. The illegal deportation of minor citizens of Ukraine to Russia is the type of crime for which the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for president Putin and the Russian Commissioner for Child's Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova.Twenty percent of the entire child population of Ukraine now has its consciousness formed under the influence of Russia. The adopted resolution states that a large part of Ukrainian children was taken to Russia to summer camps, where their “re-education”, in particular, “Russification”, was conducted. In these camps, children were forbidden to speak U...Latest news
