Denver will pay an architecture firm just shy of $9.3 million over the next three years to lead the design and engineering work that will turn a midcentury theater on the Loretto Heights campus in southwest Denver into the centerpiece of the city’s next cultural hub.The City Council on Monday unanimously approved the contract with Perkins Eastman Architects. The firm has a studio that specializes in working on theaters on college campuses. It’s the first piece of a multi-phase effort that would see the city take over the theater and a neighboring library building on the campus and turn them into cultural amenities for a part of the city that officials say has never seen a public investment of this scale. The funding was provided by a $30 million bond approved by voters as part of the city RISE bond package in 2021.Councilman Kevin Flynn, whose District 2 includes the Loretto Heights campus, called Monday’s contract “the start … of the single largest city...Crypto wants its shine back

Executives like Kwon and Bankman-Fried — once beloved crypto celebrities, with hundreds of thousands of devotees hanging on their every tweet — are now personae non gratae. HOUSTON — Jonathan Kuminga doesn’t need any help in the confidence department, but the 20-year-old still finds comfort in knowing that he has his teammates in his corner. Whether it be Andre Iguodala pulling him aside during timeouts to point out something he saw that Kuminga didn’t or Draymond Green patting Kuminga on the back when he makes a mistake, the 20-year-old feels empowered by the veterans on his team to play freely and aggressively.“Just knowing that not just the coaches but your teammates got your back, I think that’s super important,” Kuminga said Monday after shootaround. The veterans “hype you up if you do something wrong and keep telling you, ‘Don’t worry about it, just next play.’ And that’s super important to have around.”Their support has helped Kuminga become a bright spot in what has otherwise been an underwhelming season for Golden State. SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- Jose Portillo fell in love and began dating his first girlfriend when she asked him to commit an unthinkable crime: kidnap a stranger's 3-month-old baby, his defense attorney said Monday. Portillo, 28, met and fell in love with a manipulative older woman, Yesenia Ramirez, not long after he moved to San Jose. Ramirez, 43, already had an estranged husband and a boyfriend, but she convinced Portillo that she loved him too, and he should help her kidnap Baby Brandon from his grandmother's home. On Monday, a Santa Clara County judge sentenced Portillo to serve five years in prison for snatching the baby on April 25, 2022, and Ramirez to serve more than 13 years for masterminding the bizarre plot. Baby Brandon showed up for his kidnappers' preliminary hearing on Aug. 2, 2022. The Atlanta Braves have apparently decided who will replace the departed Dansby Swanson as their starting shortstop. It’s not who most people expected it to be. Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake were optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. That leaves utility infielder Orlando Arcia as the likely replacement for Swanson, who left the Braves in free agency during the offseason for a $177 million, seven-year deal with the Chicago Cubs. Atlanta announced the moves involving Grissom and Shewmake after a 6-5 exhibition win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Grissom, who had been widely anticipated to be Swanson’s successor, went 3 for 4 in the game with an RBI and run scored, raising his batting average to .371 in 12 games this spring. Arcia appeared in only one game at shortstop for the Braves last season, when he made 43 starts at second base and hit .244 in 67 games overall. He hasn’t been a primary shortstop since starting 59 games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season for ...Smith scores 16, Radford defeats San Jose State 67-57 in CBI
