DENVER (KDVR) -- A former high-ranking Denver Public Schools safety administrator said the district needs to change the way it disciplines students to keep classrooms and teachers safe.Melissa Craven was an interim chief in the DPS Department of Climate and Safety. She said the current discipline model protects offenders but puts all other students and staff at risk.Craven spoke at a Parent Safety Advocacy Group, PSAG, news conference near East High School Monday.PSAG has been calling for improved security measures at Denver Public Schools ever since the shooting that took the life of 16-year-old Luis Garcia in March in front of East High School.At the time, Craven was the DPS Department of Climate and Safety interim chief of support services for the district. DENVER (KDVR) -- If you're a Colorado resident who loves dinosaurs, you will soon be able to buy a license plate to reflect that love.Gov. Jared Polis signed Senate Bill 23-145 into law Monday, which creates the "Protect Colorado's Fossils" license plate. The new plate features a stegosaurus -- the official fossil of Colorado. When will the hazy skies get clearer? The bill was introduced this year and passed the Senate in April and the House in early May. The bill signing happened at Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison, which is the location of the first-ever stegosaurus discovery in 1877.The plates will become available for purchase starting January 1, 2024.How do I get one?Before you can apply to get these license plates, you will need to make a donation to Dinosaur Ridge.After that, you can apply to get the plates. A man has died after a shooting in Dorchester Monday, police said. SKY7-HD was over the scene at the intersection of Columbia Road and Devon Street around 5:30 p.m., where several Boston police cruisers were visible. Crews were still on scene roughly 30 minutes later as an investigation appeared to focus around two cars in the area. The cars were taped off and evidence markers could be seen in multiple spots around the scene. Police initially said one person who was shot was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. BOSTON (AP) — Rick Hoyt, who with his father pushing his wheelchair became a fixture at the Boston Marathon and other races for decades, has died. He was 61.Hoyt died of complications with his respiratory system, his family announced on Monday.“Rick along with our father, Dick, were icons in the road race and triathlon worlds for over 40 years and inspired millions of people with disabilities to believe in themselves, set goals and accomplish extraordinary things,” the Hoyt family said in a statement.Rick Hoyt had cerebral palsy, which left him a quadriplegic, but he and his father became as much a part of the Boston Marathon as sore feet or Heartbreak Hill. A man in a vehicle near a Dorchester middle school was shot and killed Monday afternoon, as Boston police ask for the public’s help in the homicide investigation.Some kids attending an after-school program at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School were inside the school at the time of the deadly daylight shooting.Police responded to 264 Columbia Road for a report of shots fired at around 4:57 p.m. on Monday.The officers at the scene found a man in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound — in the area of 243 Columbia Road. The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.No arrests were immediately made, as detectives investigated the shooting on the busy Dorchester street.No one inside the school was physically injured, according to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox.“We do need the public’s help.
